Helping You Get The Most Out Of Your Business

II. Setting Up Goals

Don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today. Don’t second-guess your gut feeling. When the opportunity comes, take it!

Creating what’s yet to come starts with nothing. From nothing starts something. That is the first step, and then the second one, and so forth. As you keep on taking incremental actions to change, the opportunities come and multiply themselves until you start making what I call quantum leaps in both your personal and business life.

Therefore, it’s important that you do take the first step, even if you can’t yet see the whole. Even if the future is unknown and unclear at the time.

Start somewhere; take the first step that you can take today. In order to avoid becoming overwhelmed, divide your bigger goals into small action bites. Then take a small action right now, followed immediately by the next action, and the next one. Taking smaller actions will make them easier to tackle, and you’ll be more likely to follow through. Once your actions are completed, an opportunity will come, followed by another one. And where you once thought there were no possibilities, they will appear.

Splitting your bigger goals into smaller actions is the first step, as we saw earlier. If you have small actions in place, it is easy to take the first step.

Taking the first step every day is vital. Put your thoughts, time, energy and money into the things that are important to you now — today — and that are in tune with your deepest desires.

If you don’t know why these goals matter to you, it will be hard to take the first step. Sometimes life circumstances will force you to take the first step (the death of a loved one, etc.).

Decide to take action.

What is the price to pay if you don’t take action now, or today? What’s the worst that could happen?

Check your body language: Are you sitting up straight, with your heart open, smiling? Don’t delay and don’t second-guess. When the opportunity comes and your gut feeling says yes, act.

Don’t be scared. If you don’t try, you will never attain what you dare to have in life. Be courageous and take the first step today. You can start with nothing and once you take that first step, the impossible becomes possible and the doors open, step by step.

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

— Martin Luther King, Jr.
